Insofar as the productive sector is undergoing significant
transformations, vocational training institutions endeavour to go keep
abreast of them, and sometimes bring about changes themselves.
In Brazil, the 90s were marked by economic readjustment
measures that caused deep changes in the productive sector. Vocational
training also went through many changes, both in its regulatory framework
(as a result of the new Law of Directives and Baselines) or in the specific
field of action of institutions like the National Industrial Training
Service (Portuguese acronym, SENAI).
This report the result of an extensive field survey
underscores one particular change that took place in SENAI activities
in the 90s, namely, the co-ordination of research and development
with teaching activities at schools and centres and with the competitiveness
of business enterprises. This "virtuous circle" of the co-ordination
of research and education can be taken as a basis for building a vocational
training model focusing on technological transfer processes.
